Job Title: Desktop Administrator
Location: On-site at Campus Library
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $70,000–$85,000 annually depending on experience


About the Role:

We’re seeking a technically skilled Desktop Administrator to support and enhance a dynamic academic computing environment. This role is essential to managing over 2,000 desktop devices and related infrastructure, ensuring users across campus receive reliable and responsive technical service. You will play a vital part in the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Key Responsibilities:

Desktop Systems and Client Support

  • Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, scanners, and peripherals

  • Support Windows and macOS systems with imaging, data transfer, and troubleshooting

  • Deploy and maintain both standard and specialized software packages

  • Manage hardware/software lifecycles from procurement to decommissioning

  • Deliver Tier 2/3 support and act as escalation for complex issues

  • Coordinate equipment refresh cycles and end-user onboarding

  • Develop and maintain desktop software configurations, including security updates, patches, integrations, and license management

  • Independently manage and enhance endpoint management platforms (e.g., JAMF, SCCM/Intune), including designing and updating configuration profiles, patch management strategies, and deployment policies

  • Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and vendors for evaluations and implementations

  • Document technical procedures and user support resources

Server and Application Administration

  • Administer Windows/macOS server operating systems and related services

  • Support and maintain server applications that underpin desktop infrastructure

  • Perform routine system updates, backups, and performance tuning

  • Monitor system health and proactively resolve infrastructure issues

  • Train staff on systems usage and communicate changes to stakeholders

  • Recommend best practices for infrastructure security and performance


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years in a comparable IT support or desktop administration role

  • Experience in higher education preferred but not required

  • Experience administering JAMF and/or SCCM/Intune environments beyond day-to-day usage — including automation, scripting, or policy creation — is strongly preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with both Windows and macOS operating systems

  • Administrator-level experience with desktop management tools such as JAMF and SCCM/Intune, including building and maintaining policies, deployment workflows, software updates, and security configurations

  • Familiarity with Windows Active Directory, cloud-based systems, and print management solutions

  • Knowledge of enterprise-level systems administration including antivirus, data backup, and imaging tools

  • Strong documentation and knowledge sharing abilities

Certifications:

  • Industry certifications (e.g., Windows, macOS platforms) preferred

Soft Skills:

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Calm, patient demeanor with excellent listening and communication abilities

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users

  • Adaptable, collaborative, and self-directed with strong time management
